Considering how sh*tty things have been lately, it's difficult to think of anything Joyful (future or present) to share. So the best I can do is share a joyful memory or two.

Back in the 80's when I was still (lovingly) known as "lil shit" my single Mother and I were living in a low income housing complex. We had no cable. No TV. No VCR. Not even an FM radio. Mom couldn't afford to buy me many toys... all we had was a record player and Mom's eclectic vinyl collection.

The record player was one of those huge stereo cabinet systems from the late 50's or early 60's. We had to tape a nickel on top of the needle to stop it from skipping, but otherwise it worked just fine.

There was always music.

Sometimes we would sit at the kitchen table and play "go fish" or "crazy eights" while one of Moms *many* Fleetwood Mac albums played in the background. Sometimes we would push the table out of the way and dance to Culture Club or Wham!

Before bedtime, Mom would put on one of my Disney storytime records. I had Snow White, Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby, Jack and the Bean Stalk and several more that were my treasured possessions growing up.

By far, our favorite thing to do was to sit on the floor in front of the player with records spread out around us and *sing*. We would sing for hours everyday. While making dinner. While doing homework. All the time.

Dolly Parton's "Little Andy" always made us cry. Don Henley's "Johnny Can't Read" made us laugh. Jefferson Airplane's lyrics never made any sense. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Dr. Hook were among the favorites.... and I learned about Joy from Three Dog Night.

(Kitten eating cake!) and with the card there was a crisp 100$ bill! Bonus! I put the flowers in the yucky warehouse sink, then proceeded to work a long and yucky day cleaning other peoples homes...*sighs*

Got home and decided that this was not where I wanted to be, got changed, considered taking a shower (*not* taking a shower ended up to a big mistake...read on) then I went out to the *only* local bar that has live rock (Best of the 70's and 80's) and got a little tipsy. The bartender set the bar on fire for me...hehehehe

Got home around 3am too tired for a shower (mistake!) and crashed into bed where I proceeded to toss and turn and sweat for the next 4 hours... but achieve very little rest. Finally got out of bed all sweaty and yucky and *begging* for a shower.... no hot water!!!! Fuckin boiler died *again* The damn thing dies every month or two, and instead of fixing it properly, they just keeping "mickey mousing" and waiting for the next breakdown... there are over 70 units here!!! We need hot water!!!!!

Anyway, I gave up on the shower idea and just washed off last nights makeup (raccoon eyes!) called Momma and we headed off to the local Pro Rodeo that opens on my Birthday every year.

So four hours in direct sunlight later.... I look like a lobster...lol I'm not stoopid! I was using spf 50 and I still burnt! Damn this snow white Canadian complexion! We took a break from the rodeo for an hour or two. Hit the nearest Timmies and downed some iced coffee...before heading back to the fair. Lost too much money on the midway. Got one of those goofy airbrush tattoos. Rode all the rides until Momma puked!...I figured it was time to head home then.

So here I am after spending 10 hours in the sun on barely a wink of sleep, burnt to a crisp and head spinning.....that explain this weird rambling? Maybe?

I go sleepy nao... *hugs*

Nope!) It was my cell service provider... they were just calling to let me know that it's been a year and a half since they've given me a new phone and why don't I come down and pick something out. Cool! Shiny technology... for free! I like my cell provider! Nothing makes you feel better than new toys!

So today, I head on down to the local storefront and this very sweet, attractive, straighforward and knowledgable young man named Aaron pulled out 1/2 dozen phones and told me to pick whichever one I wanted. Aaron was very well groomed, very well spoken and very, very limp wristed.... hehehee. We chatted a bit about which phone would be the best for me. The fun options. My contract. The severe burn on his hand caused by his boyfriend putting a very hot skillet in the sink and then not warning him.... all and all it was my usual wonderful experience with this company... Aaron collected all my paperwork and put it in a bright, colourful envelope that had a bunny and a gerber daisy, then he carefully affixed his business card to the outside and handed the whole works over... I nearly died trying to hold in the sudden, uncontrollable laughter! AARON ADDCOCK wireless data specialist.... Yeah... srsly...
As you know, things have been rather shitty here (there's WAY too much of this going around... must be the weather)

I've been pulling odd jobs for people that I know trying to make the rent... 4 days to go and I've only got a couple hundred more to make. I've been bussing tables in a bar, helping a friend with her designated driving service, painting and cleaning. I didn't work this hard when I *DID* work...lol

I finally took today off. My throat, which had gotten better, was sore when I woke up this afternoon so I figured I should get some rest and have a *me* day.... And *me* days involve exessive amounts of comfort food, movies and hot water. This explains why today I've watched all three Indiana Jones movies (The box is yellow, it caught my attention) had 2 showers and a bubble bath.... and a very nausiating mixture of junk foods.

Breakfast was a can of peaches and cream corn nibblets... cold... Cheesburger with mushrooms and bacon and a huge plate of Poutine
Dinner was the rest of my cheap Valentines chocolate and Jelly Bellies.
THEN I got a call from a fisherman friend who's crab traps were overloaded today... he stopped by and handed me two HUGE live crab which I promptly banded and put on the kitchen floor for the cats to meet.... entertaining? Hell ya... and I'll be snacking on them for a few days (the crabs not the cats)

Really don't know why I feel so bloated.... ;>)

Basically, I'm here. I'm alive. I'm not commenting too much but I am scanning the flist daily. *waves hello*

Thank you to all you fabulous fanfolk for your empathy and distraction! *hugs you all*

Snagged from "coffee news" (a local publication) which I was reading at the burger stand.
**When famed golfer Ben Hogan was asked for advice on improving one's golf game, his answer was obvious: "Hit the ball closer to the hole."** Hehee
